Postcards From Faraway Places – Opening Weekend for the SLSO

Opening weekend for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is Saturday, September 17th and Sunday 18th, and Stephane Deneve spoke with Julie Schuster about these first concerts and their theme of “Postcards from Faraway Places.”

From the SLSO website:

JACQUES IBERT Escales
NATHALIE JOACHIM Fanm d’Ayiti (Women of Haiti)
ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK Symphony No. 8

Celebrate Opening Weekend and enjoy a complimentary champagne toast led by Stéphane at intermission!

Music takes us places. Stéphane serves as our tour guide, evoking colors of Mediterranean ports with Jacques Ibert’s Escales. Nathalie Joachim—vocalist, flutist, composer—sings her own Fanm d’Ayiti (Women of Haiti), celebrating her heritage and melding women’s voices with the sounds of Haiti. Antonín Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony is grand and buoyant, walking us through the sunny Bohemian countryside. An ideal opening weekend symphony, with the brilliance of the SLSO on full display.
