Leonard Bernstein was born on August 25, 1918 (102 years ago!) and was one of the most remarkable artists in the 20th Century.

An amazing author, conductor, composer, educator, humanitarian, and pianist who was comfortable in the concert hall, silver screen, and even in pop songs (REM’s 1987 It’s the End of the World)!

One of our favorite works from Bernstein (there are SO many) is one he composed for the violin and chamber orchestra, Serenade – after Plato’s Symposium. Enjoy this performance from a few years ago with our dear friend Anne Akiko Meyers.
